FRANK S. POTTS
was born on October 13, 1945, in Montreal , Quebec, of a father born in Derby,
England, and a mother from Tignabruaich, Scotland. He attended Bishops College School in Lennoxville, Quebec, until
he moved to the United States. After
attending the University of Wisconsin, he joined the United States Army and
served in the Republic of Vietnam as a helicopter pilot.
Following his discharge from the
military and after two years in the heavy duty trucking business, Mr. Potts
received his Juris Doctor from the University of South Carolina School of
Law. While at South Carolina, he was
the Hildebrand Scholar, a Member of the Order of the Wig and Robe, and the
Managing Editor of the Journal of Law & Education. After graduation and admission to the Bar,
Mr. Potts served as General Counsel for the South Carolina Department of Social
Services. Prior to the formation of
Montgomery, Patterson, Potts & Willard, L.L.P., he was a litigation partner
with the firm of Lide, Montgomery & Potts, and previously Lewis, Lide,
Bruce & Potts, specializing in insurance defense, construction litigation,
and public utility law. Currently he is
licensed to practice law in the states of Georgia and South Carolina and has
been admitted to practice before the Supreme Court of the United States, The
Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals, the Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals, and the
United States District Courts for the State of South Carolina and the Northern
District of Georgia. His current
practice is primarily before the South Carolina Circuit Courts and the United
States District Court for South Carolina.
Mr. Potts has primarily been involved in insurance defense litigation,
business litigation, and surety law.
